RABBINIC JUBILEE
In 5733, when there were only 7 women rabbis in the world, Rabbi Lynn stood on the bimah at Temple Beth Or of the deaf for the first time as a rabbi serving the Jewish community. This coming year marks 50 years of activist-artist rabbinic life! To celebrate this milestone, Rabbi Lynn will share a series of offerings over the course of 5783 that reflect the roads she’s traveled and what she’s learned in her work carving paths for revolutionary prophetic voices and new expressions of Judaism within a more just world. RABBINIC JUBILEE OFFERINGS
Way of the Mishkan Book
Way of the Mishkan is the liturgical handbook accompaniment to Shomeret Shalom: the Torah of Nonviolence, including frontlines stories, prayer, art and ceremonial recipes for a Jewish path rooted in solidarity values. The book tells stories of witness and beautiful resistance from Palestine, Turtle Island, Iran, Honduras, New Mexico and more. Way of the Mishkan reflects Rabbi Lynn’s love of traditions of illuminated manuscript as a pathway into Jewish imagination. Way of the Mishkan will be published in Elul 5782, pre-order to come! Maggidah, Stories on Sacred Ground In the lineage of the oral tradition, Rabbi Lynn and Paul Ford bring together performance art and ritual in a theater piece about Rabbi Lynn’s life of work in art, justice and global community. Maggidah will be offered as part of the Jubilee Shabbaton. Jubilee Shabbaton Rabbi Lynn is coming to 5 communities in 5783 for an immersive Shabbaton full of intergenerational ritual, theater, storytelling, mural-making, feasting and dancing! The Jubilee Shabbaton basket of offerings can include the following: Freilekh Shabbat, a Sabbath of Dance Did you know there were 14 Hebrew words for dance in the Torah? So what are we doing sitting on our tuchuses? To welcome Shabbat, we will learn four dances you can take with you into your communities. We will spend the evening learning the Jewish processional, round dance, chasidl and freylekh, accompanied with stories of dance in Jewish culture. will integrate Jewish dance culture into Jewish ceremonial life Grassroots Community Art Build Similar to creating a Ketubah (a visual representation of a prayer or bond between two people), Rabbi Lynn together with local artists will facilitate an art process for the community to create a 4’x6’ mural that honors and celebrates it’s life, culture and vision. This piece can be a community mural, a protest banner, or an illuminated manuscript or illustrated prayer. Torah of Nonviolence Workshop Shomeret Shalom is an earth loving, non-binary, diasporic, justice-centered, art-filled accountable Jewish solidarity and ritual practice based on the legacies of Jewish nonviolence. This event is a two-hour text study and ritual to explore the Way of the Mishkan and the Judaism of the future. Specific themes and texts offered will be curated based on each host community’s needs and interest. Direct Action As part of our weekend immersing in Jewish performance art, storytelling, intergenerational ritual and exploration of Jewish traditions of justice, Rabbi Lynn would love to support local direct actions and community organizing for racial justice, indigenous land return, gender justice and Palestine solidarity. Please reach out if there is a way to organize community action in tandem with the Jubilee Shabbaton! We will work with each community to make sure all events are accessible.
